Auto Repair Costs

Keeping a vehicle on the road these days can quickly become an exercise in how to empty your wallet as fuel prices, auto repair costs and spare parts continue to rise.

While we have little say in how much fuel has risen, by shopping around we can make some quite substantial savings when it comes to buying spare parts for maintenance or auto repair.

If the repair is being handled by your car insurance company then you often have little choice in where to take your vehicle. However, if the repairs are being paid for by you then you can significantly reduce the cost of repairing your vehicle if you are willing to do just a little legwork.

Reducing The Cost Of Vehicle Repair

Here’s a number of ways you can reduce the final auto repair bill without compromising the safety, performance or appearance of your vehicle:

Use A Specialist Repair Shop
There are a number of specialist vehicle repair shops springing up that offer a quality and finish to rival the main dealer but with a much lower price. They manage to achieve this by opening large out of town workshops with lower overheads, which they are able to pass on to their customers.

Brand Name Aftermarket Parts
While your dealer will insist on only fitting genuine OEM parts, savings can be made by using cheaper aftermarket parts. No, I’m not suggesting for a moment that you fit shoddy, poor quality parts, but by choosing a brand leader you can be sure that the performance is at least as good an an original part but with a lower price ticket.

Reconditioned Parts
There is a growing market for top quality reconditioned auto parts such as gearboxes. Often, you exchange your faulty part for a reconditioned unit plus cash which can give you a large saving over fitting a new unit, keeping the final costs down.

So as you can see, it isn’t too difficult to keep auto repair costs down if you are willing to shop around a little. Remember to get estimates for any repair work before you commit yourself to having the job done.
